The British government updated the sanctions listings of Sirajuddin Haqqani, Taliban Interior Minister, and his father Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of the Haqqani Network, on the UK's Afghanistan sanctions list. The update does not remove either figure from the list.
The UK Foreign Office announced Thursday that asset-freezing and travel ban restrictions remain fully in force for both individuals. Sirajuddin has been on the UN Security Council sanctions list since September 2007.
The Haqqani Network, a key pillar of Taliban power, has been responsible for some of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan over the past two decades. Britain states the sanctions target those who threaten peace and stability in Afghanistan.
