Ukrainian authorities announced that a Russian drone strike on an ammunition depot in the Bucha area of Kyiv triggered a massive explosion, killing at least 27 people and wounding 42 others. Around 380 residents were evacuated from the surrounding area.
President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X that residential buildings and an elderly care center near the depot suffered significant damage. He stated that those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions.
The governor of Bucha warned that the death toll may rise. Under international laws of war, governments are prohibited from storing ammunition depots in residential areas. The strike is part of an ongoing wave of Russian drone attacks targeting Kyiv and its surroundings.
