Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced that 680,583 orphans, widows and disabled people have been registered across Afghanistan. Of these, more than 403,000 are orphans, over 101,000 are widows and more than 175,000 are disabled.
Mujahid said the Taliban's Martyrs and Disabled Ministry distributed 12.6 billion Afghanis in cash aid to 650,000 people in the solar year 1447. He also reported the collection of 12,510 mentally ill patients.
However, it is unclear if the aid includes families of former security forces victims. The UN has warned about continued killings of former Afghan security personnel.
