Archaeologists in northern Denmark have discovered the country's largest Viking Age silver hoard. The 18.5-kilogram treasure contains around 700 silver pieces, including ingots, jewelry and Arabic and English coins from the 10th century.

The hoard was found by chance while a resident was leveling his yard in the Ribelid area. About 6.4 kilograms of the artifacts were still inside their original clay pot.

Archaeologists described the find as a "Viking Age safe." The historical treasure will be displayed at the Fyrkat Viking Museum after technical evaluation.
