A member of the Taliban has confessed to a itish travel vlogger that he killed 14 people in one day in Panjshir province, accusing them of being members of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. The admission was captured in a video published on YouTube by the content creator, Will Bailey.
Bailey released the video, titled "4 Days in the World's Most Dangerous Country," on Monday, September 28. In the footage, he travels with Taliban members to several Afghan provinces, fires a Kalashnikov, and discusses war, weapons, and personal life with them at checkpoints.
In one segment, the Taliban member speaks about joining a religious school in Nangarhar as a teenager after finishing school, where he said military and "jihadi" training were part of the curriculum. He also mentioned fighting against ISIS in Kunar province, describing combat with them as more difficult than fighting American forces.
He attributed this difficulty to ISIS fighting based on belief, whereas he claimed American soldiers fought for a salary and to return home. The Taliban member added that he was once surrounded and wounded in the leg during a battle in Nangarhar.
Explaining his views on killing, he differentiated between murder stemming from personal enmity and what he described as "war with those who do not accept Islam." He compared killing non-Muslims to killing a chicken.
When Bailey asked him how many people he had personally killed, the Taliban member replied, "One time in Panjshir, I killed 14 people." When asked if they were ISIS members, the Taliban's translator clarified, "No, they were members of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan."
After the Taliban takeover in August 2021, Panjshir became the primary center of armed resistance led by Ahmad Massoud. International human rights organizations have repeatedly accused the Taliban government of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, and torture of civilians in the province.
