Saudi Arabia's aviation authority announced on Tuesday, October 4, that two of the country's international airports were attacked, resulting in three people being slightly injured. The attacks targeted King Abdullah International Airport in Jizan and Najran International Airport.

This announcement comes after Yemen's Houthis had previously stated they had targeted several locations in Saudi Arabia, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Abha airport, and an Aramco refinery. However, the Saudi statement only mentioned the attacks on Jizan and Najran.

In response to these developments, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen strongly condemned the attacks. She said that the attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis on Saudi Arabian infrastructure fuel further instability in the region and undermine global energy security.

On the social media platform X, Ms. von der Leyen wrote, "These attacks continue to destabilize the region, fuel more violence, and undermine global energy security."

The President of the European Commission expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and other European partners in the Persian Gulf, adding, "We stand in solidarity with Saudi Arabia and our partners in the Gulf."

She also noted that regional security will be a central topic in the upcoming discussions with the Gulf Cooperation Council later this month. These attacks have once again heightened tensions in the Middle East and intensified concerns about the security of energy routes.
