At least three local sources confirmed that a Hilux vehicle was targeted in the incident. Following the blast, these sources reported that Taliban forces fired into the air to disperse onlookers and prevent them from approaching the scene.

The explosion comes amid a rise in security incidents in Badakhshan province in recent months. Several other blasts have occurred in Faizabad in recent days.

According to local sources, another explosion took place last Thursday in the Wakilabad area of Faizabad. At the time, a source said that a Taliban Ranger vehicle had been targeted in that attack.

A video circulating on social media from today's incident shows a column of smoke rising after the blast. The increase in insecurity has raised concerns among residents of the province.
