Rana Sanaullah, the political advisor to Pakistan's Prime Minister, says Islamabad has conducted "limited-scale" operations inside Afghan territory based on evidence. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, October 7, he said Pakistan's sole demand from the Taliban government is that it does not allow Afghan soil to be used against Pakistan.
"There is not even a single word beyond this demand," Sanaullah emphasized at the press conference in Islamabad. He said Pakistan reserves the right to "neutralize" centers on Afghan soil that are used for terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
The Pakistani official added that his country has so far carried out limited operations in this regard based on credible evidence. He did not provide further details about the nature, timing, or location of these operations.
According to Sanaullah, countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, and Turkey have made significant efforts to persuade the Taliban government not to allow Afghan territory to be used for terrorist attacks in Pakistan. However, he stated that the Taliban administration has not yet provided such a guarantee to Islamabad.
The advisor described his country's counter-terrorism policy as being based on the last four decades of experience related to Afghanistan, the Taliban, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), adding that there is a national consensus in Pakistan on this policy.
Tensions between Islamabad and Kabul have risen since the Taliban's return to power in 2021, particularly over the activities of the TTP. Pakistan accuses the Afghan Taliban of sheltering TTP leaders and fighters, an accusation the Taliban has consistently denied.
