The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), one of the armed groups opposing the Taliban government, has claimed that its forces killed five Taliban members, including a commander, in an attack in Badakhshan province. The front announced in a statement on Wednesday, October 7 (16 Mizan), that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
According to the statement, the attack targeted a vehicle transporting Taliban members in the province's Keran va Manjan district. "In this operation, a Taliban commander named Qari… was killed along with four of his guards," the statement read.
The AFF added that the vehicle was targeted while it was traveling from Keran va Manjan district towards Panjshir province. The group frequently claims responsibility for attacks on Taliban forces in various parts of northern Afghanistan.
The Taliban government has not yet commented on this claim by the Freedom Front. Taliban officials typically remain silent about casualties among their forces in attacks by armed opposition groups, and it is difficult to independently verify or deny such claims.
In another part of its statement, the AFF alleged that the Taliban are pressuring local populations in areas under their control to conduct propaganda against the opposition fronts.
Since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, several armed groups under various names, including the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front, have emerged. They periodically report clashes and attacks against the Taliban government in different provinces, particularly in the north of the country.
