Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a recent interview that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is "not a good guy for us to deal with" and claimed that Zelensky does not genuinely want to ing the war with Russia to an end.
Trump made the comments on Thursday when asked if he had requested Zelensky to halt Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. "If they're going to end up with a settlement of some kind, they're not going to do it with him," Trump said. "He doesn't want to settle. He says he wants to settle, but he doesn't."
The former president added that he believes he could end the war very quickly if he were in power. His remarks come at a time of renewed tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with diplomatic efforts for a peaceful resolution appearing stalled.
During his presidency, Trump also faced criticism for his approach to Ukraine and Russia. He was impeached in 2019 over his attempts to pressure Zelensky into investigating his political rival, Joe Biden.
Trump's latest statements could influence future U.S. policy regarding the war in Ukraine, especially if he decides to run for president again. His stance on Zelensky and the conflict stands in stark contrast to that of the current Biden administration, which has provided strong military and financial support to Ukraine.
