Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has accused the United States of seeking to unilaterally dictate its demands to Tehran instead of engaging in genuine negotiations. He stressed that this American approach makes achieving a stable agreement impossible.
The Tasnim news agency, early on Thursday, October 22, quoted Baghaei as saying his remarks were in response to recent comments by U.S. officials regarding the religious beliefs of Iranians. Baghaei stated that what makes logical negotiation impossible is America's "negotiating behavior," not "Iran's religious beliefs."
The Iranian spokesman explained, "America's behavior is more akin to unilateral dictation of demands than to real diplomacy." He added that the U.S. cannot expect concessions from the other side while being unwilling to offer reciprocal concessions itself.
Baghaei also clarified, "One cannot dictate their own demands, ignore the legitimate interests of the other party, and at the same time expect a lasting agreement." These statements reflect the deep mistrust between the two countries and the serious obstacles on the diplomatic path.
This stance comes as tensions between Iran and the U.S. have sharply escalated in recent months over various issues, including Iran's nuclear program and its regional activities. Diplomatic efforts to resolve these disputes have so far not yielded tangible results.
Analysts believe that without a change in approach from both sides and the creation of an atmosphere based on mutual respect and understanding of each other's interests, the prospects for successful negotiations will remain bleak, and the region will face a greater risk of instability.
