A clash erupted at a wedding ceremony in Badakhshan's Shahr-e Bozorg district after Taliban forces intervened to stop music, according to local sources. The incident resulted in the death of one Taliban official and left four other people, including two Taliban members, injured.
The event occurred on Saturday night, October 24, in Wandiyan village. Local sources told Afghanistan International on Sunday that Taliban forces went to the wedding to prevent music from being played and to stop celeatory gunfire (firecrackers).
According to these sources, the confrontation began after Taliban forces first opened fire on local residents and wedding guests. This action reportedly triggered a backlash, leading to the violent clash.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have imposed strict restrictions on music and social gatherings, deeming music "haram" (forbidden in Islam). They have frequently cracked down on individuals who defy these rules across the country.
Following the clash, eyewitnesses reported that Taliban forces arrested at least 25 local residents. They added that house-to-house searches and harassment of people in the area continued after the incident.
Local Taliban officials in Badakhshan have not yet officially commented on the event or the resulting casualties. The incident highlights ongoing tensions related to the Taliban's enforcement of social edicts and its impact on the daily lives of Afghans.
