Faisal Karim Kundi, the governor of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, has warned the Taliban government not to be "under any illusion" following a border clash at Angoor Adda last night. The incident has once again escalated tensions along the Durand Line.
In a post on the social media platform X today, October 28, Mr. Kundi described the clash on the border between Paktika's Barmal district and South Waziristan as "overt aggression" by the Taliban. "Pakistan will never tolerate attacks on its people or violations of its sovereignty," he wrote.
The KP governor praised the "swift and decisive" response of the Pakistani forces and held the Taliban government responsible for the tension. He stressed that KP has suffered greatly in the fight against terrorism and will not allow any group to undermine the region's security.
The office of the Deputy Commissioner of South Waziristan reported that one civilian was killed and five members of a single family were injured when Taliban forces allegedly fired into a residential area during the clash.
The Taliban government has not yet officially commented on the incident. However, some Taliban security sources in Paktika confirmed the clash to media outlets, adding that civilian homes on the Afghan side were also hit during the fighting.
Border clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani border guards have become frequent since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan. These conflicts often arise from disputes over border constructions and issues related to the Durand Line, and have repeatedly resulted in civilian casualties.
