Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has expressed regret over a boast he made several years ago on the show "Koffee With Karan" about his consecutive hit films. He now believes an actor's work should speak for itself.

Appearing on Season 9 of the popular talk show, Dhawan admitted he regretted the statement. "I feel many years back, I came here and flexed about how many hits I had, and eventually, it jinxed me," he explained.

The original incident occurred during Season 6, when host Karan Johar asked Varun whether he considered Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh a bigger competitor. Varun famously replied, "No one… they haven't had what I've had. I've had eight hits in a row."

On the new episode, Varun and fellow guest Janhvi Kapoor corrected the number, noting he actually had 11 hits at that point. However, Varun was quick to emphasize that he didn't want it to sound like another boast.

He added that he now aspires to be like actor Ajay Devgn, who he says remains impressively calm and consistent through both success and failure. Dhawan called this trait "amazing."

The actor also discussed the origin of a popular meme featuring his smile, explaining that it originated from a scene in his debut film, "Student of the Year."
