Pakistan-based Bank Alfalah has announced the complete cessation of its banking operations in Afghanistan, transferring its branches to Ghazanfar Bank.

According to the bank's official statement, its branches operating in Kabul and Herat are being formally handed over to Afghanistan's private Ghazanfar Bank.

The institution noted that the transfer of activities was carried out with full approval from Da Afghanistan Bank and took effect on November 5.

Ahead of the transition, Bank Alfalah had instructed its clients to decide by November 2 whether they wished to transfer their balances or close accounts.

The statement clarified that accounts with no specific instructions would be automatically transferred to Ghazanfar Bank, with funds safeguarded until withdrawal or account formalization.

Bank Alfalah had been operating in Afghanistan since 2005, delivering commercial banking services to local businesses and individuals across Kabul and Herat.

The institution represents one of Pakistan's major commercial lenders and maintains active banking operations in several other countries across the wider region.
