South African Parliament Takes Strong Stance Against Israel, Calls for Embassy Closure
The majority of members of the South African parliament voted in favor of closing the Israeli embassy in this nation, and the Israeli embassy in Pretoria was closed as well.
With 241 votes in favor, the document that was submitted on Tuesday night, November 21, was accepted.
There are 400 members of the South African National Assembly. President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, however, has the last say on whether to close the Israeli embassy.
The third-largest opposition party has proposed a parliamentary discussion on the closing of the Israeli embassy. This move was approved by the ruling “African National Congress” as long as diplomatic relations with Israel remained open.
Pemi Majodina, a delegate for the African National Congress, demanded that the embassy stay shuttered until a cease-fire was achieved in the Middle East.
