The Turkish Language and Literature Department was inaugurated at Balkh University on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
The ceremony was attended by Taliban officials and representatives from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) Speaking at the ceremony, Samih Lutfi Turgut, the Turkish consul general in Mazar-e-Sharif, said that Turkish language and literature classes will begin in February 2024 The department was established through a joint effort by Balkh University and TİKA. TİKA renovated the building that will be used for Turkish language and literature classes and provided all of the necessary facilities. Turgut said that the opening of the department is a sign of the strong relationship between Turkey and Afghanistan. He said that the department will provide Afghan students with the opportunity to learn Turkish language and culture.The opening of the Turkish Language and Literature Department is a significant development in Afghanistan’s education sector. It is the first time that a Turkish language and literature department has been established in a university in Afghanistan The department is expected to attract a large number of students, as Turkish is becoming increasingly popular in Afghanistan.
