The Taliban government in Afghanistan has asked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for help for Afghan refugees living in Karachi, Pakistan.
In a meeting with the UAE’s general consul in Karachi, Abdul Jabar Tahari, the Taliban general consul in the city, said that thousands of Afghan refugee families are currently living in camps and remote areas of the city. He said that most of these refugees lack access to basic necessities.
Tahari asked the UAE to provide assistance to these refugees through its aid agencies.
The request comes after Pakistan’s recent crackdown on Afghan refugees. In the past two months, Pakistan has deported or repatriated an estimated 500,000 Afghan refugees.
The Taliban government has said that it is committed to helping Afghan refugees return to their homeland. However, the current security situation in Afghanistan makes it difficult for many refugees to return.
The UAE has a long history of providing humanitarian assistance to Afghan refugees. In the past, the UAE has provided food, shelter, and medical care to Afghan refugees in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
It is unclear whether the UAE will respond to the Taliban’s request. However, the request is a sign of the growing humanitarian crisis facing Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
