Taliban Defense Minister Fires Logistics Chief Over Russian Arms Deal Comments

Mullah Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Defense Minister, has reportedly dismissed Abdul Basir Saberi, the head of logistics, for his “irresponsible statements” regarding the purchase of military equipment from Russia.

Local sources claim Saberi, who was close to Salahuddin Ayubi, a Uzbek Taliban commander, had previously expressed interest in acquiring air defense systems from Moscow in an interview with Russian news agency TASS.

The Taliban’s Defense Ministry spokesperson, Enayatullah Khwarazmi, has since denied any plans to buy military equipment from Russia.

Abdul Qayum Elias has been appointed as the new head of logistics.
