Disruption of trade between Türkiye and Russia by America
Reuters news agency reported that the trade between Turkey and Russia has been disrupted due to the threat of sanctioning Ankara’s financial institutions by the United States that do business with Moscow.
These sanctions, which were imposed based on the new order of US President Joe Biden, target financial institutions that, according to the White House, help the Russian war machine.
According to this report, the sanctions have not directly targeted Russian energy, but have caused a problem in a part of Ankara’s payments to Moscow in the field of Russian crude oil.
Sources who were not named in the report said that Turkey has not paid any money to Russian oil exporters in the last two to three weeks.
However, senior officials of the US State Department have also warned foreign financial institutions to avoid transactions that benefit the Russian military or allow Moscow to circumvent sanctions.
Russian and Turkish authorities have not said anything about this so far.
