Taliban flogged 15 people on charges including running away from home and having sex in one week

In the past week, at least 14 men and 2 women in different provinces of Afghanistan were sentenced to flogging and imprisonment by the Taliban courts on various charges and were flogged in public.

In the latest case, a man was arrested in Balkh province on Tuesday (April 14) on the charge of “touching an unmarried woman” in Chaharbulak district of this province.

According to an announcement published on the website of the Taliban Supreme Court, this person was flogged 25 times in the presence of officials and “a large number of people” in the courtroom of the Balkh Magistrate’s Court and was sentenced to six months in prison.

Also, on the same day, two men in Khost province were flogged in public on the charge of having sexual relations with each other, for which the Taliban use the religious term “lawat”.

The Supreme Court of Taliban said that one of these defendants received 39 lashes and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, and the other received 25 lashes and 5 months in prison.
