Biden Threatens Israel
In a phone call, US President Joe Biden threatened Israeli Prime Minister that Washington’s aid and policies regarding the Gaza conflict will depend on Israel’s performance in protecting civilians and addressing humanitarian crises in Gaza.
This marks Biden’s attempt to influence Israel’s behavior through American assistance, a departure from previous administrations.
The conversation between the Israeli PM and the US President took place days after the Israeli army’s attack on a convoy of aid workers, resulting in seven deaths. Israel described this attack as a “mistake.
“The killing of aid workers has stirred anger among some of Biden’s fellow party members, who demanded stricter conditions on US aid to Israel.
Biden has consistently resisted sending US arms to Israel.
The White House stated that Biden called for Israel to take specific actions to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza and ensure the safety of aid workers.
There is hope that Israel will announce new measures on these issues.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, over 33,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
