Taliban Orders Telecommunications Shutdown in Kandahar on Eid Day Amid ISIS Threats
While the Taliban previously boasted of their singular achievement in providing overall security, this Eid sees the southern provinces, especially Kandahar, trembling under the looming threat of ISIS attacks.
In an unforeseen decision, the Taliban have ordered the shutdown of telecommunications networks in these provinces during Eid day.
Sources in Kandahar report that this decision is based on the Taliban’s security plan, which prohibits residents from accessing telecommunications services on the first day of Eid.
Sources further add that telecommunications services in Kandahar will be disrupted for half or the entire day based on this decision.
Meanwhile, despite preparations and an expenditure of 3 million Afghanis, the Taliban have canceled the cricket tournament named “Qush Tepa” in Kandahar, apparently transferring it to Kabul due to technical difficulties.
In some provinces, debates have arisen regarding whether commanders and top officials should attend Eid prayers or not.
