Britain to Continue Arms Exports to Israel Despite Calls for Suspension
Following requests to suspend arms exports from Britain to Israel, the Foreign Secretary of the UK has stated that London will not halt arms exports to Israel.
David Cameron mentioned that legal advice in this regard has been reviewed but Britain’s position remains “unchanged.
“After the killing of seven aid workers by Israel in Gaza, some lawyers and members of the Conservative Party in Britain called for the suspension of arms export licenses to Israel.
However, the British Foreign Secretary stated that his country would continue its actions within the framework of international law.
But Mr. Cameron expressed “grave concerns” about the access of the people in Gaza to humanitarian aid. He urged Israel to “translate” its commitments to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza into reality during a joint press conference with its American allies.
The British Foreign Secretary added that continuing arms exports to Israel aligns his country with other “like-minded nations.” On the other hand, he stated that there is a “robust” legal process for issuing these licenses.
Britain exported arms worth $53 million to Israel in 2022.
