The concern of a former American official about the spread of extremist groups in Afghanistan
Some former senior American officials have warned in a research conducted by the American Peace Studies Institute that extremist organizations in Afghanistan have found a new opportunity to reorganize and strengthen themselves. They have asked the US government to intensify actions against terrorist groups in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban and Pakistan.
These officials, including two former US ambassadors to Afghanistan and Pakistan, have emphasized that Washington should not ignore terrorist threats from Afghanistan. They have also demanded to identify and eliminate the threats of groups such as the Khorasan branch of ISIS and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
These former American politicians have suggested that the US government increase drone flights in Afghanistan to pressure Taliban leaders to cut ties with al-Qaeda. They have also emphasized the need for US cooperation with Pakistan to fight terrorism.
