Russian Foreign Ministry Advises Citizens to Avoid Travel to Afghanistan Following Attack on Tourists in Bamiyan
The Russian Foreign Ministry has urged its citizens to refrain from traveling to Afghanistan for personal purposes, including tourism, in response to the recent armed attack on foreign and domestic tourists in Bamiyan. In a statement released on Monday, May 22, the ministry expressed its “concern” over the attack on tourists in Afghanistan.
The ministry described the security situation in Afghanistan as “very challenging.” On Friday, May 19, armed assailants attacked tourists in the Bamiyan market. According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, three Spanish nationals and three Afghan citizens were killed in the attack, while four foreign nationals and three Afghan citizens were injured.
The Islamic State’s Khorasan branch has claimed responsibility for the attack.
