Entering restaurants in Herat; The Taliban ask the clients for a marriage certificate
Local sources in Herat report that the Taliban have imposed new restrictions on families, especially women, in the province. The Taliban’s Department of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Herat has ordered restaurants to prevent the entry of men and women who do not have a marriage certificate with them. A woman in Herat said that yesterday, when she went to a restaurant with her husband and child, they were denied entry due to not having a marriage certificate. The Taliban have not yet officially commented on this matter. This comes after the Taliban’s Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice had previously banned women from going to recreational parks. Over the past year, the Taliban have imposed many restrictions on girls and women in the country, including banning girls above the sixth grade from attending school and not allowing girls to go to university.
