Russian Defense Minister’s emphasis on intensifying security measures on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan\\
Andrey Belusov, the new Russian Defense Minister recently appointed by Vladimir Putin, in a meeting with Tajikistan’s Defense Minister, emphasized the need to strengthen the country’s borders with Afghanistan. He called Afghanistan a source of instability in Central Asia and said that Russia is at the forefront.
According to Belusov, several radical groups have gained a foothold in Afghanistan and have intensified the promotion of their ideas in neighboring countries. He warned that the possibility of these terrorist groups spreading outside of Afghanistan is increasing.
The Russian Defense Minister emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and timely measures to stabilize the situation in the region, especially on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. He also called for increasing the cohesion and combat readiness of the military forces of Russia and Tajikistan stationed in the region.
The security concerns of Russia and the member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization have increased after the recent attack in the suburbs of Moscow. Tajik authorities have considered it necessary to create a security belt around Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
