The United Nations and Hamas welcomed Biden’s cease-fire proposal in Gaza

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed US President Joe Biden’s proposal to establish a ceasefire in Gaza. Guterres believes that this initiative can contribute to a ceasefire, the release of hostages, humanitarian access in Gaza and lasting peace in the Middle East.

The Hamas group also announced by publishing a statement that if Israel commits to this proposal, it will have a positive view on it. Hamas emphasized that it will deal positively with any proposal including a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the reconstruction of Gaza and the exchange of hostages.US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also emphasized the importance of this ceasefire agreement and considered it an opportunity to end the war in Gaza, return the hostages and reduce the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Earlier, the United States had vetoed draft UN Security Council resolutions for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, but now the new proposal has raised hopes for peace in the region.
