Gordon Brown, the former Prime Minister of Great Britain and the United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, called the Taliban’s ban on Afghan girls’ education a “heinous act”. He considered this action to be a clear violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the United Nations Universal Charter.
Mr. Brown called on the international community to unite to support the rights of Afghan girls. He said these words in line with the “Voice of Afghan Girls” campaign launched by “Education Can’t Wait” organization.
Thursday, the 24th of Gemini, coincided with the 1,000th day of the ban on education of girls above the sixth grade and female students in Afghanistan by the Taliban. A large number of human rights organizations and activists have condemned these “anti-women” actions of the Taliban.
