Michael McCaul, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, has sent a letter to Jen Psaki, former White House Press Secretary, demanding that she appear before Congress “without any conditions” to testify about the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan in August 2021.

In response, Psaki stated that she would appear before Congress if approved by the White House. McCaul emphasized that Psaki’s testimony is crucial due to her key role as a “credible source” during the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee has been seeking Psaki’s testimony on this matter for several months, even warning that a subpoena would be issued if she refused to comply.

The withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in August 2021, which led to the collapse of the Afghan government and the deaths of 13 U.S. service members in an ISIS terrorist attack at Kabul airport, has sparked outrage among members of Congress. Since then, they have been investigating and holding hearings on the circumstances surrounding this deadly withdrawal.
