Senior ISIS Leader Killed in U.S. Airstrike in Syria
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that Osama Jamal Mohammad Ibrahim al-Janabi, a senior member of the terrorist group ISIS, was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Syria.
In a statement released on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, CENTCOM said that the death of al-Janabi deals a blow to ISIS’s ability to secure resources and carry out terrorist attacks. The statement also noted that there were no indications of civilian casualties in the strike.
Despite the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria in recent years, remnants of the terrorist group still maintain a presence in remote areas of both countries and have carried out deadly attacks against Syrian forces. Reports suggest that following these defeats, many ISIS fighters have joined the group’s Khorasan branch in Afghanistan.
