Shabnam Khan Dawran, a presenter for Afghanistan International TV, has revealed that her father has been arrested and beaten by the Taliban group three times. In an interview with the British newspaper The Independent, she said, “Once they beat my father so badly that he was bleeding and his leg was broken.”

Ms. Dawran added that her family has fled and gone into hiding in fear of the Taliban, but they are still being pursued by the group. She said, “Now my father can’t stand on his own feet. He was fine before, but now his leg is broken, his hand is broken. Just for supporting his daughter.”

Since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan, the majority of journalists, especially female journalists, have fled the country, but their families face threats from the Taliban.
