As the third Doha meeting takes place, activists and independent members of Afghan civil society have warned that any understanding with the Taliban group means openly engaging with “war criminals, agents of gender apartheid, and sworn enemies of the Afghan people.”

In a resolution, they emphasized that inviting the Taliban to this meeting ignores the will of the Afghan people and called on the United Nations and other international bodies to talk to the people instead of the Taliban.

Civil society activists have also demanded recognition of gender apartheid, sanctions against the Taliban, keeping the names of the group’s officials on the UN blacklist, prosecuting war crimes, and cutting off their access to humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, demonstrations were held in Amsterdam, Netherlands and several other countries against the Doha meeting. Protesters expressed their opposition to global negotiations with the Taliban group through slogans and called for global solidarity with the Afghan people and an end to engagement with the Taliban.
