The United States Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Rina Amiri, has expressed her support for Afghan women’s struggle against the Taliban’s “oppressive” policies both inside and outside the country. In a message posted on social media platform X on Wednesday, September 18, Amiri highlighted the mobilization of various Afghan women’s movements fighting for their rights.

Amiri emphasized the ongoing gender oppression by the Taliban and their return to the extreme policies of the 1990s. She noted that Afghan women are gathering in different locations, holding the international community accountable for defending their rights. The Special Envoy stressed that the Afghan women’s struggle will have implications not only for Afghanistan but globally.

Amiri called for unwavering support for Afghan women’s movements, urging the use of all available tools to back their inspiring courage. This statement comes in the wake of a recent “All Women Summit” held in Tirana, Albania, where about 120 women gathered to discuss a “women-centered and inclusive” path for Afghanistan’s future.
