Taliban’s Supreme Court Claims to Address Women’s Rights Cases
The Taliban’s supreme court officials claim to have addressed 3,373 cases related to women’s “Sharia rights” in the past year. On Wednesday, September 18, during the Taliban’s accountability program, they stated that 8,005 drug-related cases were also processed during this period.
According to Taliban information, 250,762 legal and criminal cases were processed in their primary, appellate, and supreme courts last year. They claim to have resolved 185,591 of these cases. The Taliban’s supreme court has also reportedly reviewed 335 cabinet resolutions and decrees issued by Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s absent leader.
The Taliban added that during this time, following Akhundzada’s orders, 2,304 individuals were released from their prisons, and 1,920 other prisoners received sentence reductions. These statements come as the Taliban face accusations of violating citizens’ rights, especially women’s rights, since regaining control of Afghanistan.
