Quad Summit Unites Leaders, Modi-Biden Talks Strengthen Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the sixth Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware on Monday, September 23, 2024. The leaders expressed concerns over the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, while also focusing on strengthening their alliance in the Indo-Pacific region.
During the summit, the Quad leaders launched a new Coast Guard exercise and announced the expansion of maritime surveillance, demonstrating their commitment to regional security. Prior to the main event, PM Modi held bilateral talks with President Biden, discussing various regional and global issues.
President Biden emphasized the strength of the India-US partnership, stating it is “stronger, closer, and more dynamic than ever”. He also reiterated support for India’s bid for permanent membership in the UN Security Council and commended Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine.
Following the Quad Summit, PM Modi is set to address the “Summit Of The Future” at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He will also participate in the “Modi & US” programme for American-Indians, further strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora.
The Quad Summit and bilateral meetings underscore the growing importance of India’s role in global affairs and its strategic partnerships with key allies in the Indo-Pacific region.
