Forest Fires in Panjshir; Possible Taliban Action to “Clear the View”
Local sources in Panjshir province report that the Taliban have set fire to the forests on a mountain in the village of Tanbena, Darah district, on Tuesday, 24 Mizan. The fire, which started at 1:00 PM, lasted several hours and was eventually extinguished by local residents.
Reports suggest that the Taliban’s motive for this act was security concerns and an attempt to increase visibility in the area. The Taliban have yet to provide any explanation for this incident. Previously, similar fires in the area were described by local Taliban officials as accidents due to “carelessness,” but local residents describe these actions as “vengeful.”
These events highlight ongoing tensions in Panjshir, known as a center of resistance against the Taliban regime. This situation underscores the importance of continuous international monitoring of human rights and security conditions in the region.
