India’s Foreign Ministry Representative Meets Taliban Officials in Kabul
J.P. Singh, India’s representative for Afghanistan, held crucial talks with Taliban’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul, focusing on political and economic relations. The meeting emphasized bilateral trade and humanitarian assistance, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
During the visit, Singh also met with Taliban’s Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, where both sides expressed mutual interest in expanding bilateral relations. The meetings highlighted India’s continued diplomatic efforts in the region.
While India had closed its embassy following the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in August 2021, it has maintained humanitarian support to Afghanistan over the past three years. The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, noted that Muttaqi requested facilitation of visa processes for Afghan citizens, particularly businesspeople.
