Afghan Literary Community Protests Taliban’s Book Ban
Following the Taliban’s ban on numerous books in Afghanistan, members of the literary community have launched a reading promotion campaign in protest. The Golden Needle Literary Association, led by Humeira Qaderi, has initiated a protest movement using the hashtag “against-book-burning.”
The campaign comes as a direct response to the Taliban’s recent actions of prohibiting the publication and distribution of hundreds of books across the country. The ruling group has labeled dozens of titles as “undesirable,” significantly impacting access to literature.
This resistance from the cultural community demonstrates growing tension between Afghanistan’s intellectual circles and the Taliban’s restrictive policies on literature and cultural expression.
