CSTO Members Support Inclusive Government in Afghanistan
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has expressed its support for establishing an inclusive government in Afghanistan that represents all ethnic groups. The announcement came during a meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, with Russian President Vladimir Putin in attendance.
The organization, comprising Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Belarus, emphasized its commitment to combating terrorism, drug trafficking, extremism, and arms smuggling. The strengthening of the Tajik-Afghan border was highlighted as a crucial agenda item.
CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov noted that terrorist threats from Taliban-ruled Afghanistan remain a significant concern. The organization has also called for increased humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan while supporting efforts to eliminate terrorism and drug cultivation.
