Taliban Imposes Nighttime Curfew in Badakhshan and Badghis
The Taliban has instituted nighttime curfews in Faizabad, located in Badakhshan province, and in the Qadis district of Badghis province. As per directives from the Taliban police, residents in these regions are prohibited from moving about their villages and cities at night unless they possess a valid “Sharia excuse.” The Taliban police in Qadis district have mandated that citizens refrain from traveling in markets and within the village after 9 PM, effective December 23rd. Similarly, the Taliban’s third police district in Faizabad has advised individuals to avoid travel after 10 PM.
Residents have been cautioned that failure to comply with this order will result in punitive measures. Throughout the past three years of their governance in Afghanistan, the Taliban has enforced nighttime curfews in various locations. Previously, individuals faced no such restrictions on their movements across the country.
The Taliban primarily justifies these measures on the grounds of security. These curfews are part of the Taliban’s broader strategy to uphold security and order in the territories they govern. However, such restrictions may adversely affect the daily lives of the local populace.
