German police announced that the driver of a Mini Cooper who rammed into a crowd in Munich on Thursday, February 13, was identified as a 24-year-old Afghan refugee.
According to the German newspaper Bild, at least 20 people were injured in the incident, including a child who remains in critical condition. Local authorities confirmed that several victims sustained severe injuries.
The incident occurred just one day before the annual Munich Security Conference, raising security concerns in the city.
