Scientists have made a remarkable discovery showing that rodents, like humans, attempt to revive their unconscious peers. The study, published in Science magazine, demonstrates that instead of fleeing, mice try to rescue their companions through mouse-to-mouse resuscitation.

Using machine learning analysis, researchers observed that mice initially begin with sniffing and grooming behaviors, gradually escalating to more intense actions such as mouth biting or pulling the tongue to clear airways. Remarkably, in more than half of the cases, mice successfully managed to open their unconscious companion’s airway.

This lifesaving behavior, heavily influenced by familiarity between the mice, closely resembles human first aid techniques. Researchers emphasize that these actions go beyond mere curiosity or social interaction desires, representing genuine rescue attempts.
