After nearly a month of closure, the Torkham border crossing officially reopened on Wednesday, March 19, allowing truck traffic and patient movement. This development has led to the resumption of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Taliban governor’s spokesman in Nangarhar province announced that the Torkham gate will be fully opened to passengers, patients, and transit on Friday. Pakistani authorities are working to activate their systems for passenger movement by Friday.
Pakistan had closed this border crossing on February 22 due to the Taliban group’s attempts to construct a checkpoint on Pakistani territory. The closure had caused significant disruption to trade between the two countries.
