The US State Department has called for the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, to be brought to justice. During a press briefing on Thursday, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have made it clear that the United States stands with India and strongly condemns all forms of terrorism.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, while leaving several others injured. It marks one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike, in which 40 Indian security personnel lost their lives.

Following the attack, President Trump held a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his deepest condolences and offering full support to bring the perpetrators of this “heinous attack” to justice. US Vice President JD Vance also called Modi in a separate conversation to condemn what he called a “dastardly terror attack.”

India has taken strong countermeasures against Pakistan, which it accuses of supporting cross-border terrorism. These measures include holding the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, declaring Pakistani High Commission officials as Persona Non Grata, and canceling visas provided under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme.US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed support for India, posting on social media: “The United States stands with India.” US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz described the attack as a “terrible tragedy” and called on people to pray for the victims and their families.
