Donald Trump, the US President, unveiled a new missile defense system called “Golden Dome” on Tuesday, May 19, 2025.
This advanced system will be initiated with an initial budget of $25 billion and will cost a total of $175 billion.
Space Force General Michael Gatling has been appointed to lead the implementation of this ambitious project.
According to Trump, this defense shield will utilize “next-generation technologies on land, sea, and space” and will be capable of intercepting missiles from across the world and even from space.
The multi-layered system includes space-based interceptors and has the capability to counter various types of ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles, as well as drones.
Canada has also expressed interest in participating in this project and, as stated by Trump, will pay its “fair share.”
The system is scheduled to become operational by the end of Trump’s presidential term and is designed on a much larger scale compared to similar systems like Israel’s “Iron Dome.”
