Donald Trump, President of the United States, issued an executive order on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, banning travel of citizens from Afghanistan and 11 other countries to the United States.

The justification states that Afghanistan is controlled by the Taliban group, which is on America’s Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) list, and lacks a capable central authority for issuing passports and civil documents.

However, the order includes exceptions for certain Afghans. Those with Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) for Afghanistan, Afghans with permanent legal residence or green cards, individuals with dual citizenship traveling with another country’s passport, and those with immigrant visas through immediate family members can still travel to the US.

Other countries affected by this ban include Iran, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Myanmar, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. According to this new executive order, entry of Afghan citizens to the United States, whether as immigrants or non-immigrants, is suspended following the issuance of this order.
