In the post-pandemic era, there has been a renewed interest in watching classic films on the big screen.

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, a special screening of “Khuda Gawah” (1992), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi, was unexpectedly canceled at Mumbai’s Inox R City Ghatkopar cinema.

“Khuda Gawah” is one of Bollywood’s beloved classics that tells the story of love between an Afghan chieftain (Amitabh Bachchan) and an Indian woman (Sridevi).

Shot in the breathtaking landscapes of Afghanistan and India, the film continues to maintain its popularity decades after its release due to its powerful love story, memorable music, and stellar performances from its cast.

Sriram Jay, one of the customers, told media: “I came to the theater with great expectations and excitement to watch Khuda Gawah. Some patrons traveled from as far as Andheri and Panvel.

The theater offered refunds or allowed viewers to watch another film, but modern cinemas are very casual about such incidents. They think saying sorry and refunding money is enough compensation, but who compensates for the lost experience?”
