According to official statistics from the Taliban’s Ministry of Education, the group has established twelve religious-jihadi schools in six different provinces of Afghanistan during the past three months.

These schools have been built or had their foundation stones laid in Ghazni, Paktia, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Faryab, and Panjshir provinces.
Statistics show that construction of these schools tripled in April but decreased in May 2025. During this period, a foundation stone for one school was laid in Daman district of Kandahar province at a cost of 1.5 million Afghanis, while construction of classrooms for another school began in Urgon district of Paktika province costing over one million Afghanis.

Human rights activists warn that the expansion of such schools could foster extremism in Afghanistan. Abdul Ahad Farzam, a human rights activist, says graduates of these schools will not only develop tendencies toward violence but will also lack necessary skills for entering the job market and participating in the country’s development.
